The Power to Move Forward
When the days are too long and the nights are too dark,
When my mind won’t stop running like a bustling city,
When my eyes, swollen red have unleashed their last gust of rain,
My soul seeks to unleash its pent up emotion.
My hands grasp onto a single pen,
And my thoughts pour out over a sheet of paper like a wildfire.
Who knew that a pen, paper, and darkened mind can hold so much power,
Lugubrious letters written during lulls of sleepless nights.
Life was given as fast as it was taken,
A baby sister once here is now just a soul less forgotten.
The only physicality representing a lost precious child,
Is simply a 3 foot cross and a pile of withering old daisies.
I first would write to forget that life was unfair,
To strip away happiness and to bring despair,
But through all of the writing and praying and sulking,
God spoke to me in his own form of Poetry.
Her time on Earth was short but sweet,
However, Heaven needed her sweetness even more than I.
Her pure innocence was guarded from a world so cruel,
Although physically not here, guards my life in spirit.
Poetry saved my mind from wretched thoughts,
Brought me happiness and led me to forgiveness,
Of life itself as it is not so unfair,
It is selective in its choices and protective in its ways.
As for now I find happiness in all different forms.
I reach my hands to the sky to give thanks to the Lord,
For allowing me to seek happiness through the power of Prayer
And also through the power of Poetry.
I can continue to write about my journey in life,
And also about a precious, innocent being.
Once here, now gone.
But never forgotten.
Recollection of life is very sweet.
Through the power of Poetry, I can now continue on.
