power to rise above the contradicton
A brilliant mind Undefined By works of those who captivate the mind Devine and true A black mind that is capable of more than a just thing or two We sit right in front of you Still, we are ignored Gunned down Treated like the scum of town. It wasn’t a mere thought that started this feeling This yearning to grow, Enforcing this knowledge I know An intolerance to the act You think I’m stupid enough to not fight back Because what you see isn’t what you get, The privilege the wealthy Are the ones who hate what they don’t have That laugh when we don’t pass Because they set the bar so high They scoff when we manage to reach the sky A double standard that is whats true What’s fun for me is fear to you Taken by the dozen Our cries cast away I live and breathe While they hate me Feeling trapped other than free In a country where this isn’t supposed to be For the streets are blurred The skies have no end Falling into a world full of violent sin I am left as a victim The same story retold so many different times You lost sight of what was true When color meant more to me and less to you We are black and we are beautiful Made in his image A past unforgiven We were forced to swallow The hate you gave So now we give it back in a more respectable way. We are people We will be equal We are the ones that will make a new sequel Start a new time Bring a new light. simple crimes In our desperate times You will fall But we will rise The power that we hold true Is destined for greatness In pure burning excellence That radiates across oceans That plunges it’s way through time A passion so great We will be impossible to hate.
