The Power of She
The big, the strong,
The "let me walk you home"
They claim it's chivalry.
They say we're weak,
So fragile and meek,
They say it's for our safety.
The think we don't know,
Think our minds cannot grow,
They say we're too gentle to learn.
The ones who were smart,
They called Ones of Dark Art,
And on pyres in town squares would burn.
Proper lady-folk,
Those who seldom spoke,
Were held as the greatest of wives.
They refused to see,
How all of us, we
Could do so much more with our lives.
Thanks to Lydia Taft,
To Smith, Stanton, and Mott,
Who started our voice's outcry.
To the great Alice Paul,
Who gave voice to us all,
And gave us the freedom to speak.
We women are strong,
And our battle was long,
But now we have power to speak.
We are not helpless,
No more under duress,
A man is not something we need.
Not a damsel in distress,
I don't need to impress,
I'm just showing The Power of She.
