The Power of Telling: A Villanelle

I hesitate again and again.

My tale is much more than mere ingenuity.

But if not now, when?

My heart tick-tocks like Big Ben.

What if it is picked apart with ferocity?

I hesitate again and again.

I put paper to pen

And recast an old, holy city.

If not now, when?

I start to write of a boy who is chosen.

Can my tale abate my insecurity?

I hesitate again and again.

“No time like the present,” they said to me then.

My tale is good, and filled with piety.

If not now, when?

Now lighter, my heart sings like a wren.

Revealing my tale brought power and gaiety.

Though I hesitate again and again-

If not now, when?
