The Power of Word
On unkempt fingers
I count the words left unsaid
As they echo
through the catacombs
Of my restless mind
I have never been confrontational
But if I was
I would aim my unsaid words at you
Arching my body
To throw them like knives
But you’re impenetrable
The blades would bounce off
The sound rippling would be symbolic
Of a piercing defeat
I could never win a fair fight against you
You, the enemy who does not desire war
My victory would be tainted a dirty-water brown
By the splattering of my ugly thoughts
Most days I crave to jab you with my time-sharpened hostility
But I keep my words sheathed
Instead, I reach for my own heart
I bleed a poem through parted lips
weaving my unsaid words into a tapestry
Each verse laced with the lyrical pain that flees me
my tapestry of words carries on the wind
It cascades through the atmosphere
Rippling through the ears of others
Colliding with their most private emotions
I find solace in that moment
Where my soul is most bare
Because I have no one to fight
no resentments remain harbored
I freed them from inside of me
Without jabbing you once
I chose to fly instead of fight.
And in doing so, I finally won.
