The power of the words

When I step into the stage after they call my name I come up to the mic to say what I have to say the words come flowing out like a waterfall I can't seem to utter it slowly it all spills out at at once I feel like what poetry means to me is the words to my life story they express how I feel and what it means to be me it tells what I've experienced and what I've been through it shows the heartache and pain and what I've gained through it all how I watched myself rise and then fall but I'd rise back up again anyway it's my pain fears happiness and tears I love when I utter the words that I want to just express let it out and make the power of the words come alive to help me through all the times that are hard I didn't know how it would feel guess I do now the power of the words is my escape my final way to let it all I finally figured out what I'm made of and what I'm all about
