Power of Words
This is for Petrarch
So his undying love won’t get lost in translation
For the man with a dream
Whose words inspired a nation
For those lesser known
Whose silent thoughts stumble…
And slip from their tongues
Only to drop off a cliff, unheard and mumbled
If each unspoken hope were turned to drops of rain
We’d have another ocean to be named
But instead that ocean just swallows
Our hearts
And our souls
Until we drown in the words slowly filling our lungs
Muffling our expression.
Which begs the question
What are we to do, to keep our heads and our hearts above water?
We must open our mouths
And let the words tumble out
Until our pens run dry
Until that whisper evolves into a shout
Breathe out the phrases locked inside
The words will mingle with the exhale
Let your voice and your own expression collide
