To pray her name
Were my love
to be simply carved in stone
With words I read
so not to feel so all alone
Could I find my peace
here within my home
where she lives with me
Time too will pass
but nothing will have changed
My holding fast
remembering the pain
This paragon
I wear it like a chain
to show my shame
Not once in life
have I ever met
Nor would I wager
ever to forget
But then again
I would lose that bet
were it not for her
There was a time
briefly now it seems
When my waking life
exceeded all my dreams
And now I'm left
just learning what it means
to lose her love
In truth she lives
with every breath I take
I hear her voice
with every choice I make
In dreams she waits
until the morning breaks
tearing me away
What is that faith
that begs my will to change
what is this fear
refusing to be named
why must my life
be something to be taned
so to live again
I surround myself
with the waters of the deep
My only shame
are the secrets that I keep
Yet every night
just before I sleep
I pray her name
And of her face
the one that she would show
A kind of soul
I will never know
A yellow flower
needing space to grow
has made me weep
My days will end
and I will be alone
Free at last
from all this skin and bone
but in the end
what broke my heart of stone
is now a part of me
