The Prayer
The world stands in silence, and the choir’s hymn shall end
The pastor steps down from the altar, an open hand he lends.
He asks for the sinners by the wayside, he asks for the ones who stand tall
He asks for the wicked and meek, he asks for them all.
The pastor stands up and says, “Even if your steps are parallel with Him or if you don’t know the way,
I ask that you bow before the Lord and on your knees pray.”
So I did as I was asked. I did as I was told.
I knelt there before the Lord ever so bold.
“Peace is a necessity, caring will make you want to help.
But pray for the ones you love as you would pray for yourself.”
So I pray that you will love me forever. I pray that you will see
I pray that you remain beautiful. I pray that you will love me for me.
Because you are not like others, you are special everyday
And I hope that you’ll remember me even if we go our separate ways.
So Lord I ask that you keep her, and take her by the hand
Because she is sweeter than a melody played by the band.
Have her walk in your footsteps as long as she’s alive,
Because I know deep-down in my heart that is the only way to survive.
