Precious

Without you, one would feel deep emptiness

go years looking for something like you

yearning for someone to sate their hunger

fill their holes-make them whole

Without your ears- your eyes-your touch

one would feel unheard-unseen-untouched

as if there is no one out there

that would possibly understand what’s going on

‘hold them above the crashing waves in the storm

Without you, they look

see a mess in the mirror

told their ambitions aren’t enough

they’d never be better; that they’re a

failure-a nobody-worthless-ugly-their life’s too rough

BUT. With you, one could know fullness

there’s nothing else to look for

yearning for nothing more

their swiss cheesed heart turned cheddar

whole

With your presence, one could feel

heard-seen-touched

‘as though they’re never

alone

confident-calm

safe-secure-strong

that they can

overcome

With you, they could look in the mirror and

see.

see what others can’t

see.

see what can

be.

and know,

in your eyes, they’re

precious
