Presents

I wrap gifts

For those whom I love

(So tenderly wrapped

To be torn in your hands)

And though you tear them

Wanting only the inside

I know you appreciate

The time spent on presentation

(The hours selecting that

Perfect ribbon, the ebony gleam or

The snowflake paper)

And though it is only

A sweater in black

It will keep you warm- (and never

forget

when you wear it [my hugs]

how they held you)

Like the bow tie before it

And the kisses                    coming after

(I carry your memory)

Softly I tread (with your memory)

clutched

In the palm of my hand (Covered in dew drops and

Sprinkled with apprehension)

Asking if you (when feeling [my hugs]

Through a warm soft sweater

Will remember me.
