The preservation of Innocence
When you're not too sure about the time or date,
But feel like the day will never end.
When you spend your days adventuring,
through the lands that have yet to be explored.
When your backyard is your classroom,
and your imagination is your guidance,
That's when you don't know you have your innocence.
When you're pressed for time,
and each day is shorter than the last.
When your adventures transform,
and they fall victim to routine.
When your floor is no longer Lava,
and instead is $1.99 / sq. ft. laminate tiles,
That's when you know you've lost your innocence.
I've refused to let my mind be captured by cynicism.
I've let myself fall victim to hopeless wandering.
What society deems weird, I deem puzzling,
and I've let myself give in to exploring the unknown.
While others chase the same, simple, tangible goals,
I chase the ones I know to be impossible.
That's how I know I haven't lost my innocence.
