What has society done to us?

50 years ago today, one of the most common words in a book was give

Now it's----

Get.

We're judged not by who we are

But what we have.

And what we wear.

And I know we hear this all the time

But the validity of it holds true

Society has pegged a certain image for us all to be

How often do you see a female model whose legs are short

or who can't fit in a size less than 3?

How often do you see a male model that doesn’t have perfect cheekbones

Or beautifully messed up hair and scruff shaved just right?

Women are taught they need to be skinny

That you can't stand out against the grain

Blending in is better than standing out

Men are taught to hide their emotions

That you need to be stable no matter what

And any emotion other than power and protection

Women are taught they need to be skinny

That you can't stand out against the grain

Blending in is better than standing out

Men are taught to hide their emotions

That you need to be stable no matter what

And any emotion other than power and protection

Is called "a pussy"

If you express yourself, you're emotionally unstable

If you don't dress nice, you don't care about yourself

If you wear knock off brands, you're poor

If you're confident, you're cocky

If you're shy, you're weird

You can’t win in this society

So run away before you are pressed into the mold

Run away because you don't want to conform to this world

For you may not be the what society seeks

But you will be genuine

And genuineness lasts a lifetime.
