Pressure

I'm proud of myself, all that I've done But I want to be more, I want to be someone Someone people look up to, someone people can trust Someone who knows what to do, who does what he must I want to rise above temptation, a perfect model of strength I want to be able to do anything, to go to any length To inspire the masses, to never do wrong So why do I fail even after so long I try and try, yet I always lapse and fail Over and over, why can't I prevail My weakness, my struggle, why can't I overcome This terrible humanity, so useless, so dumb So how will I manage, how will I ever succeed In becoming a rock, to help others in need I'm selfish and weak And without trying to sound bleak I fear that I'll never attain the goal that I seek The pressure is there, it builds every day People judge me on what I do and what I say And they deem me good, because they don't see The weak, the selfish, the human in me So the pressure increases, I don't want to let them down On the outside I'm strong, I never falter, never frown But I know the truth, I know what is real The conflict inside me, with all that I feel And I try so hard to be perfect and strong; I know I have to be People need someone to look up to, to be proud of; I want it to be me. So I'll try and I'll try and maybe one day I'll get it right But it will always be a struggle, a never ending fight
