pretty things for pretty girls
is not the mirror my enemy?
the beast from which I've long been hiding?
oh you wretched creature
come out and let them see you
oh you horrid monster
come out and let them eat you
but they can't feast
honey, don't you ever listen?
I don't know exactly what I'm missing
don't you want to know anything?
what is there to want in me?
listen to me
oh just listen to me
'cause I can tell you
so many things
I can't even begin to explain
but I think your words
are in poor taste
quiet, darling
oh, you'll see
what am I supposed to be?
the pretty girl
they steal her things
they defile her mind
and they clip off her wings
the pretty girl
they cut out her ribs
they feed her to dogs
and they feed her to pigs
darling, they just don't know what to do
with a sad sort of girl like you
I am of sound mind
but broken form
is to be armored
to be ignored?
is that what you think?
is that what you want?
honey, I know you've been through a lot
but just listen here
I'll tell you what
you're just a slew of nothing for them
devoid of form
waiting around
leaving the sounds of your silence
so then
they can drag you down
and hope you drown
in your perfect, self-constructed pen
suddenly the mirror and I
seem so much more alike
and it's not every day
that I'll eat shards
(darling, now you're just a little more
perfect)
