The Price of Equality

Sometimes I wish on things

I know hold no magic

Because the world can’t afford

for my dreams to come true

With their gilded gold games

and their silken screened schemes.

To give common knowledge

to the common

For every child to pursue

what their parents

Lacked the life to learn.

Because I’d be robin hood if I could.

I’d take knowledge from the rich

And educate the poor.

I’d end the cycle

Of no opportunity, no escape

And I’d help those who lack learning

climb out of the pit that

Chance has left them in to die

And with the gift of education

They’d climb

And climb

And climb

Until they reached the greedy:

The rich, the powerful.

and then we’d all be common.
