The Price of My Innocence

   ~The Price of My Innocence~

You told me you loved me

I had no reason to believe

that you’d lie and deceive me

the way you did with greed.

I didn’t trust anyone

for a very long time

and I still have trouble

believing that people won’t lie.

If I didn’t want to heal so bad

I think I might have died.

I lost the person I used to be

and felt so empty inside.

Despite you I decided

That I would be alright.

It didn’t happen overnight

but gradually as time went by.

I’ve used you as an example

of who I do not want to be.

A liar, a thief of hearts,

who played head games

to torture me.

The stealing of my innocence

took a hard toll on my heart,

my confidence and pride.

Knowing how strong I’ve become

I’m just grateful I’m alright.
