Pride

For two different colors To call the other “Brother” Was a battle of pride, A battle won by both sides Divided by prejudice And painted on lines Each man took a side And called the side “mine” Protests and marches Commenced day and night Songs rang through the air As the music for the fight But for the battles to end We all preached a new song And stood in the center Accepting our rights and our wrongs We stood behind leaders, Variables and Kings To look to the skies And a new day bring We stood hand in hand In a place we all knew We turned “mine” to “ours” And our hearts, in turn, grew The caged bird was set free The crows turned to doves And we learned to replace Our pride with our love
