Pride

Pride rages through the young soul

As he feels his loss as hot as coal.

He strikes the wall with a clenched fist

And hears the rumble of the wall’s dusty mist.

“I had him!” He roars, snarls, and rages.

He curses again and pounds his cages.

Dignity he utterly fails to keep

As he gnashes his teeth, then falls in a heap.

“I deserved to beat him!” he groans again,

Searching for a way to escape his pen.

But he should have had more humility

If truly the victor he wanted to be.

Next time, perhaps, he will keep in mind

That losing your pride does not leave you blind.
