The Priest's Burden
In the box you hear their secrets,
Every week, the secrets don’t change,
And you must look at the sorrowful woman,
Her other half sows his seed with another
She’s so miserable raising his kids while he’s out.
How do you listen to them?
How do you carry the burden?
How can you be the middle man,
Between God and the sinner?
You see the little girl and the little boy,
Poor children that have been defiled,
They can’t trust anyone or anything
They act out when left alone.
Their criminal comes to your box,
And you must keep his secret.
How do you listen to them?
How do you carry the burden?
How can you be the middle man,
Between God and the sinner?
You see the family suffering from loss,
The pure lamb has been slaughtered,
The killer has come to your box.
And he’s not sorry, He just wants to gloat, without getting caught.
And I wonder…
How do you listen to them?
How do you carry the burden?
How can you be the middle man,
Between God and the sinner?
One thing you know,
People don’t change very often.
Most sins are rewritten in ink,
As are yours, for as it turns out,
You can’t be the middle man,
And you confess in another man’s box...
