Prince Charming
It started as a crush.
A rush of energy and nerves everytime he walked by me.
As time progressed, my feelings changed.
They grew stronger,
just like our relationship.
The day was September 22nd.
Why do I remember this day so vividly?
It's the day I made the best and worst decision of my life,
the day he asked me to be his best friend and his other half,
the day I started falling in love.
Our conversations, text messages, and phone calls...
Our movie nights, dates, and dinners...
The way you used to kiss me and hold me close to you,
like we were physically and emotionally connected.
First, I fell in love with your smile.
I fell in love with your humor.
Then, I fell in love with you.
I fell in love with us.
But you never fell in love with me.
You fell in love with her.
You fell in love with the conversations, text messages, and phone calls
you had with her.
You fell in love with the movie nights, dates, and dinners
you had with her.
But you never fell in love with me.
As a kid, I always thought that finding my Prince Charming would be easy.
You were my first boyfriend, my first kiss, and my first love.
You were my everything and I thought you were my Prince Charming.
But you taught me heartbreak.
You transformed me into the person I am today.
You were the first step of my staircase.
And I've learned that I just have to keep climbing those steps to get to the top of the staircase,
to finally meet my true Prince Charming.
