The Princess With A Disorder
When I see the word fairytale
I hear the word perfect
Which a princess with flaws
Is never concerned with,
But I am.
A disorder or sorts
Could fit in perfectly,
Like Aurora with hypersomnia
Or Rapunzel with anxiety.
You see I’ve grown up in a world
Where we have standards for beauty.
A woman who is pretty
And speaks softly.
I want a princess who is loud
And curvy.
A woman who refuses to
Listen to society.
They had the right idea
With merida in Brave.
Finally, a woman
Who wouldn’t “behave”
But it was a baby step
Because she was still
The spitting image of beauty.
I want a woman with
Crooked teeth and boring eyes.
I want a princess who
Has a lopsided smile or
Only wears leggings.
I want someone I can relate to.
I don’t want to watch
More movies of girls
Who only remind me of
What I’m not and who make me
Feel like i’m searching through Nylon.
