A Princess Who Looks Like Me

When I was a little girl I dreamed of a Princess that looked like me

Her name was Cinderella, and her life seemed a tragedy

You see Cinderella was not like most

She was as black as the night with short black hair that her mother couldn’t comb through to save her life

Curvy as can be with size 12 feet, far from the average ladies in her town that had blond hair and blue eyes that were petite and had small feet

Cinderella was an outcast for sure there was no doubt about it

She was an ugly duckling amongst beautiful geese or at least that’s what she seemed to think

But how wrong she would turn out to be

Weather she knew it or not, she was a beautiful masterpiece among dull copies

Every woman in the village was struck with envy, including her evil stepmother that was as nasty and despicable as can be

As a result, Cinderella’s stepmother kept her away in the attic far away from any potential husbands or friends to be

But what her stepmother didn’t know was that someone very special was watching

The one who controlled everything and she did not like ugly

So one day when Cinderella was instructed to pick some berries she meet a handsome lad that swept off her feet

This was the fairy Godmother’s chance to work her magic

While the two were in the woods talking the fairy Godmother sprinkled some dust down and the two fell in love instantly

But Cinderella thought “how can I be worthy of someone so handsome and so charming.”

So Cinderella left abruptly

Later that night the fairy God mother appeared

Cinderella, she said “Pick yourself up, you are a queen, open your eyes no one cannot love you if you don’t love yourself that cannot be, find the beauty within yourself my darling.”

Cinderella then and there realized that beauty is not about the physical things, but what lies inside a human being

She did not need a man or a king to realize that she was a queen

But she loved the lad in the woods, and she decided that she was going after her wildest dreams

“Where can I find the lad that is so unforgettable, and dreamy?”

“He is the king.” the fairy God mother said quietly, and you will get him, you just need something to dazzle you up.

The fairy Godmother sprinkled some dust, and Cinderella was magically transformed, wearing class slippers and a blue ball gown

Despite opposition, a poor black girl who lived below the poverty line

To a King who had riches upon riches, and was not the same color as she

But despite the oppositions she walked right into the palace

She struck he foot down and said

“I am strong, and beautiful

I am a queen who is as dark as can be,

Nappy hair that is tangled for days,

Curvy with size 12 feet

I am beautiful and loved despite what society thinks,

I do not need a king to make me a queen,

But I am in love with you

I would love to marry you if you would have me.

Then and there the king married the one who overcame many boundaries.

-You can do anything.
