Prism

Light passes
Blinding and painful
Through the glass
Hard and sharp

Transparent
Seemingly nothing
Apparently plain
Unappealing

Just glass
Nothing special
Just light
Nothing new

Yet when
Ultimately combined
The prism
Creates a rainbow

From plain to wondrous
Appearance is nothing
Upon the true essence
Of what lies within
