A Privilege To Love You

Because I love you

the word love itself

is no longer abstract,

but a synonym

for you

And the color blue

doesn't equate

to sadness

but that which is the sea

in your eyes

and the color

of the sky

in which you reside

because it is our love's limit

Because I love you

the thorns on your roses

discloses

the idea

that you are beautiful

to see ,

but you come with pain

And I hold your thorn's prick

as a warning

from which I have to gain

the caution

that I must handle you with care

And that your time

here on earth

with others I must share

because I know you

have so much to learn

and experience

and I'd never want to block you

from a blessing or discourage you

from learning a lesson

Especially because I know

of how much you desire

to learn

And though for your warm embrace

I will always yearn

through our fights

I understand it is a privilege

I must earn

and because I love you

I expect nothing of you

I respect every part

of your physical

as a prepossessing visual

because your body equates to sacred land

and I'd rather cultivate your mind

first

then to prematurely touch

such blossoms with my foreign hand

Because I love you

I think of you

like a hand thinks of holding

and my arms think of folding

like the corner of the Christmas list

I wrote to Santa

asking him to gift me someone to not only love me

but for someone I can love back

but after beholding you

I know that only God

Could create a being in such a wondrous image

and I know he took some extra time on you

and I understand my privilege

because I love you

I will treat each day like it is our last

savor each second a lil longer

than the one past
