The Prize

Your eyes Dark and brooding Intense and deep Your windows to the soul Staring through me Tell me your thoughts They’re what I beg to hear To understand the complexity That is your mind; to know your fears To know your dreams and desires Your biggest revelations To understand where you come from Your craziest infatuations But away you keep me Your trust I cannot get Your soul is so guarded And I cannot get you to let me in You’ve been betrayed in the past By those you trust the most So now it’s so hard to believe That I will not be like those The walls you have put up I am more than willing to climb Because I know that I will cherish The prize on the other side
