Progeny

These words are not my own. While I may assign my last name to them I cannot claim all their credit. They come from within Grow to a certain maturity And when they come into the world I can not control their impact. I write because these words Have their own life Spawned from every day interaction I can not ignore their kicking against my stomach Or the nagging to come out and play. I can’t shape them or mold them Only facilitate to their needs. And with a mother’s pride I hope to look back in the end And see a legacy To know my last name Is carried on through generations.
