Promise

I stare at the word promise,

it resides in a sentence on my computer screen.

At sight of the word my eyes become a camera;

unfocused and fuzzy.

The word is no longer visible..

Is this what an empty promise looks like?

Or is it the way your voice unsteadily said I

Promise.

Maybe it wasn't meant to be a promise,

and be but another lie..
