Promise Me You'll Write
Promise me - you'll write me once you get there.
Handing me a pen and telling me where to sign.
You never looked as beautiful as you do right now.
You never looked as serious as you do right now.
When the sunrise arrives and all we have is our maps.
Places we've never been or never seen but we know that we want to go there.
Washington, Oregon, that place in Maine.
We were going to see them all before
you blinded me with your words.
Suddenly - I was wrapped up in a swirl of hate
And nothing seemed to make sense
I couldn't even place my feelings in a box
To have them come out and attack me later
Twisted and turned inside out
I messed with the wrong person
I failed to see what you couldn't imagine
I longed for your words
Promise me - you'll write me once you get there
The pearly gates letting you in
Those gates which keep you in and keep me out
I loved you for what seems like an eternity
I moved on
I should have stayed put
I should never have left
Promise me - you'll write
