promise is a promise

I made a pact to myself to keep my word

Over and over again thinking about what I promised to keep

Told myself I can do it, gave myself a timeline

Behind my back my own devil smiling and sneering!

Knowing better than I do

My promise to break a promise, nope! To keep a promise

A promise that I break instead of keeping

A promise, a lie promised!

No one heard when I promised

Went bed be promising to remember

The promise I break, surely won’t be the last

Do I enjoy lying to myself?

I keep myself safe with promises that I know won’t last

Promises are broken, people die

Another lie to pamper my fragile heart

When neglect visits me, I pretend the promises weren’t for me

Waiting for the next day to start all over again

Hoping for the reality to be another promise

In another world, another illusion

A promise is a promise! in another world a promise is kept!
