Promises In My Pocket
“Come hither, come hither, sweet child,
a dream for you is a must,
the streets of the west can be wild,
you need someone clever to trust,
arrive and then pay off your transport,
slip the patrol a lie or a bribe,
we stop at a place quite near Aarschot,
be sure to be there for the ride,
you will share a big house with more ladies,
sometimes its uncomfortably cramped,
but you can send money home to your babies,
cash for the hand or to bank,
get dressed I take you to work now,
you have a big debt to repay,
if you don’t get through four in an hour,
my persuaders will call around again,
I have your address and your passport,
your identity, yours to pretend?
I will listen to all and the last word,
I’ll ensure you will never make friends,
you belong to me now for my service,
you might work your way to the states,
sweet child your life now is worthless,
a perfect cut steak on my plate.”
