Promises To You

Dear Lucy,

I know you're scared and I know you probably shed a couple of tears these past couple days. Young, you is here to tell you-you're a beautiful, intelligent girl that can do anything.  You've conquered obstacles that have shaped you into the person you are now. Lucy, remember when your teacher asked you to write an essay about your role model, and you chose your mom. Do you remember why you wanted her? If not let me remind you. Remember when you were two years old in that two bedroom apartment with your mom pregnant with your unborn brother. You only had one little box tv that had a built-in VCR player and a DVD player next to it on the flower watching Toy Story. Wrapped in your red blanket, a thin sheet, and a couch pillow. Walking into the living room seeing your mom stressed about life and seeing her glow every time you came into the room. Then, think about all the indoor pets your mom gave you from guinea pigs, hamsters, fishes, a bunny, a cat, and a puppy. She always gave you everything to support your dreams of being a veterinarian. I know you're on a different career path and it's understandable as we continue to grow and develop we think differently. I'm personally proud of you. You've sexual harassed and instead of being a stereotype or having self-pity for yourself you've grown to accept love from others and forgive anyone who has hurt you. You blossomed into the beautiful flower Big T said you'll be. Lucy understand that you're a unique individual that is adored and loved by anyone you meet and I personally love that about you. I want you to know that continuing striving for the better and not just for yourself. Think about all your siblings who are looking up to you. Do it for them.
Love,
18-year-old Lucy
