Proud
I am from my mother at sixteen being the life of the party,
and by eighteen being an alcoholic.
I am from my father at eighteen being the host of that same party,
and by twenty being a drug addict.
I am from a love story like no other.
I am from my mother's alcohol infested womb at twenty three,
and two weeks later being adopted
I am from an adoptive mothers love,
and an adoptive fathers abusive anger.
I am from an adoptive home with a father who wasn't a father,
and an adoptive mother who loved me like I was born from her womb.
I am from my struggle at fourteen,
with an addiction to painkillers.
I am from my doctor being my drug dealer.
I am from the amazing freedom of being off drugs
and never wanting to go back.
I am from being black in a predominately white neighborhood.
I am from harassment from the cops
because of the color of my skin.
I am from breaking the law,
to being a model member of the communities of which I am involved.
I am from skipping school because of my own figuring out of my gender identity,
to a straight A student
because I found a place where I am accepted for who I am
and I am Proud to be Black, Proud to be White and Proud to be a Man.
I am from my mother at sixteen being the life of the party,
and by eighteen being an alcoholic.
I am from my father at eighteen being the host of that same party,
and by twenty being a drug addict.
I am from a love story like no other.

I am from skipping school because of my own figuring out of my gender identity,
to a straight A student
because I found a place where I am accepted for who I am
and I am Proud to be Black, Proud to be White and Proud to be a transman.
