Of Psyche and Cupid: A 21st Century Tale

There once was a beauty so lovely and free

Her appearance so strong the ocean would dance just to see

Attention she caught attention arose

But so did the attention of her cruel cruel foes

Though she fought and though she tried

She couldn’t help but catch the eye

She dressed quite bland

Never raising a hand

But people they noticed as she tried to take a stand

They saw her charm

Her smarts her beauty

Scholarly and strong

Jaws dropped while on duty

Though she was smart

And studious as could be

People took noticed

And would never let her be

But jealousy rose with darkness at hand

Evil concocting a cruel cruel plan

Lady evil, she danced opposing the light

Speaking with her son she took joy and delight

Her plans had been made

Her son shall obey

The beauty who twirled would be thrown far away

The lovely girl who everyone would try to see

Would soon be thrown to the wolves deep in the sea

Never failing a course

Never missing a class

This beauty was quite perfect and filled with finesse

But the evil one knew how to trick and to pry

Changing her scores without batting an eye

Her son assisted in this poposterous plan

Even telling the dean she was cheating off hand

Their lies were listened

Their cruelty was heard

Until the girl was thrown to the curb

The son he took noticed

Happy at first

Until he discovered the young girls sad curse

She lived on her own struggling to make work

Hard was her life unhappy and worse

It broke his poor heart

Sad with affliction

Until one day he stopped and took action

He took her hand and lifted her up

Bringing her back to where it all went erupt

Hiding away he left with the dean

The lovely young girl with a letter from he

Explaining his lie

Telling of his mother

The dean took her back sorry and a flutter

He turned to the evil

The boys mother so vial

Thrown out in the wind

Her life destroyed and on fire

Never she came back, hidden she aspired

The beautiful girl then remembered the sons heart

She came to him swiftly with joy in all parts

Gladly she gave him the love she had gained

Psyche the beauty and Cupid her king

Together forever

Their story begins here

A mythological story

Brought into our year
