Puppet King
The lights are dim, the stage is set,
For the puppet king and his marionette.
Behind velvet curtains, he does lurk,
The puppet king sets to work.
The puppet appears, and although checked in advance,
All his strings are tangled, by the winds of chance.
The king doesn't mind, no, he keeps on going,
For all he cares about is the show that he is showing.
Against his will, the puppet dances,
And all the children stare in trances.
But the puppet yearns to join the crowd,
And instead of dancing, sing out loud.
But he is stuck inside the tale,
And his hopes for escape have soon set sail.
"For children like dancing!" said the king,
"Who wants a puppet that can sing?"
The puppets eyes scanned from face to face,
Wondering Who would come to stop this disgrace?
Who would realize, who would see,
What this puppet can truly be?
But no one saw, and no one knew,
What the puppet was going through.
So from town to town, and from cage to cage
The story of the puppet has been staged.
In children's minds it has been writ,
It only dances, that puppet.
And that's all they see, but if they only would look,
But their vision, that is what the king has took.
He took their eyes, and replaced just a word,
And it's the only thing the children have heard.
Dance, the puppet dances,
And so the children cast no other glances.
But one day a child did not go,
when the puppet came, to see the show.
From yonder she heard all the noise,
But, ignored the chaos and played with other toys.
Toys of beauty, painted with color,
And everything else in the world was duller.
In all the chaos of the puppet show,
She was the only one not to know.
Her eyes were not stolen, her heart was intact,
So when the puppet king had finished his act,
She went to the carriage and heard the doll sing,
and she tried to untangle its' mess string by string.
Then the puppet was finally free,
And all of the children could finally see,
And the puppet did sing, no he did not dance,
And the world was back in total balance.
The puppet master could not hide what was truly true,
He could no longer present the show, not to me or you.
But the puppet king took another puppet.
