Puppy Dog Eyes

After years of silence

years of pretending to be okay

you left me waiting, hurt, cold, frozen with fear in the corner of the kitchen

The beer bottle in your hand was slipping, almost to the floor

My big brown puppy dog eyes were enough for you to take

The black and blue bruises on my body told a story I was afraid to speak aloud

I had no more energy to try to escape you

The sirens came down the street

Three men in blue burst through the door, I finally put my head down, relief

You are sitting behind a glass wall with a phone that hasn't worked for years

The bruises have healed, I am no longer cold

My glasses protect my puppy dog eyes now

I see you, this is what you deserve

Ten year is not long enough,

My puppy dog eyes cannot shed tears for you anymore

I hope you have decided your last meal

My puppy dog eyes, are no longer a toy to you
