Puppy Dog Eyes
Slobbery kisses welcome me home.
No matter how many days I’ve spent trekking my way
Through the dark days and darker nights
Of the Real World before seeing him again,
Slobbery kisses welcome me home.
Those puppy dog eyes stay young
Even when his idea of fun changed from
Chasing a grasshopper for five miles
To chasing nothing but sleep.
Even as his fur grays
His heart only grows.
Whenever I’m sad he lays his head in my lap
And looks up at me telling me it will all be okay.
His comfort is a blanket
Enveloping me in the strength to continue on.
Even when no one else is there,
Slobbery kisses welcome me home.
In a life as hard as this,
We all need a dog as soft as a kiss
To show us the importance of the true,
Selfless love of
Slobbery kisses to welcome us home.
