Puppy Passion

The thing that has driven me since the day I could think,

What kept me pushing forward when I thought I’d reached the brink.

No matter how lost I felt in the struggles of the past,

I was determined to end up in a much higher cast.

Since the age of 2 when I got my first dog,

To when I found myself reading a scrubs catalogue,

I knew that I’d end up with a career in this field,

If I saw a sick kitten I just wanted her healed.

I spent many long hours working the back of a kennel,

This place doubled as a hospital so I got some fundamentals.

I enthusiastically watched the neuters and spays,

Handed doctors utensils like sutures from trays.

In my free time I day-dreamed about acceptance to Vet School

My ambitions drove me forward and kept me working like a mule.

I spent many late nights researching my potential future career,

Couldn’t imagine not pursuing something that to my heart was so dear.

From where it all started when I felt a puppy’s fluffy fur,

And to all the aspiring vets who are now where we once were,

To everyone with a dream that they’re uncertain if they can achieve,

Give every ounce of effort forth and that outcome you will receive.

I can’t imagine the state I’d be in if my passions hadn’t driven me forward,

But I guarantee without this fervor things wouldn’t be the same in my world.
