Purpose of Education

Why do we educate

The way that we do

Kids “learn” their whole lives

And still have no clue

How to change a tire

Write a check

Or calculate a tip

Instead they’re fed

With useless facts

They eventually let slip

From their memories

Can’t you see

Something isn’t right

Our future generations 

Have no more dreams in sight

They’re drowning in their homework

And taking their own lives

What is education

If we don’t have kids to teach

There won’t be a future workforce

If we teachers fail to reach

The hearts of students

Make connections 

Lasting memories

Show them how to do their work

But also how to dream

Cultivate their passions

And teach them real life skills

Maybe you will find

That one kid gets a thrill

From building with their hands

They’ll go on to make plans

For a future school building

That makes lives not bland

The kids become adults

And owe their love for life

To those teachers in that building

Who taught how to do life right

The point of education

Is to prepare our current kids

For a future with a job

But also happiness

My philosophy

Is of a life well-lived

And education plays a part 

In achieving exactly this
