Pursuit of Something Else
I hope someday you're not the first thought.
When it's dark and I'm alone in bed,
when I stand in front of the ocean or the Eiffel Tower,
I hope I don't think of you.
I hope I think of how much I enjoy the moment for myself,
rather than how much I wish you were by my side.
I hope someday you realize just how much I loved you,
and I hope when that day comes I'll have finally begun my life again,
in a pursuit of happiness that doesn't rely on you.
