Push and Pull

Push and pull, push and pull.

I let myself go to the push and pull.

Outside of this space, I am forced every direction,

Tugged and shoved until I can’t find up,

Can’t reach the surface to breathe.

But here, in the unending waves,

All I am is the push and pull.

I push against the waves

Push myself forward

Even as they push right back.

I pull a steady rhythm,

An unending dance of synchrony

With the water pulling me along; the perfect partner.

Later, I will go back to countless directions

Responsibilities

Expectations

But here, in the water, I swim away from it all

And let myself go to the push and pull,

Push and pull,

Push and pull.
