Pushed Away

I was a broken young girl,

When I was brought to the world.

Nobody would ever calm me down-

My face would always be in a frown.

Anyone who would come near,

I’d send running with a bunch of tears.

This was how I pushed people away,

Even when I just wanted them to stay.

As people came and ran away,

I would dread the pain of yesterday.

Every day I became more lonely,

Even though happiness was what I was showing.

I used this pattern to protect myself;

I pushed away any help.

I pushed people away to prevent more pain,

But the pain came from pushing people away.
