Put it to Rest
There are so many moments we desire rest in our lives. Even more moments
when rest is left behind.
Thanks netflix.
Our species' relationship with it is restorative.
Granted we have to grow into that opinion: For children it's a chore, for teens it's a forgotten reward, for adult's, they accept its function.
Frankly, as a restless person, I don't think I'd really choose to sleep if it didn't restore the wonder within.
It's kinda like popcorn, it's not really worth eating unless theres a movie playing (depending on your opinion of popcorn).
Without dream, I think i'd just try to live until I pass out from exhaustion.
Why on earth would I waste my time laying down for 8 hours?
I could do so much if I just tried to work and play until I absolutely need sleep!
I could make all the art I wished and talk to all the people I loved.
I would work until I was proud of the time and quality.
I could meditiate on the mistakes or trama of my past, find peace with my emotions.
Think about it! All the time not wasted because I'd be acting for my dreams.
But, then I remember the soothing feeling of resting my head on my pillow,
as if it were the welcome to the wonder of night.
I think about being 5, and grumpily passing out in my mom's arms after a long day.
At 5, I was aftraid I would loose the wonder of that day if I slept.
Now, I think about the satified grin before I lay down, reflecting on the memories I've made that day.
I remeber the pride I felt in choosing to sleep because I'll find wonder in tomorrow.
That special magic inside all humans that comforts that fear of losing wonder.
The magic that christmas poems say fill kids' heads with candy.
It sparkles under closed eyes until we are greeted by tomorrow.
I have come to terms that sleep is a complete waste of time, but comfort that restore our willingness to wonder the wonder within me puts my restlessness to rest.
So I don't know when you will hear this, but when you sleep, I truly hope you have a good night.
Good night.
