Put Yourself In My Shoes

I fall in love with a man

He has a daughter, but it’s not that bad.

My life is just going swell

He loves me and my children as well.

He still obsesses over his late wife

But that’s okay, he’s full of life.

Finally, one day he asks for my hand.

I am overjoyed, my mom would be glad.

I get married one sunny day,

But after that, his love slowly fades away.

He spends so much time with his daughter,

I can’t help it, I start to resent her.

I felt so bad for feeling this way

And it got harder every single day.

Then out of the blue, he takes a fall.

He died, it was the worst pain of all.

I truly loved him with all of my heart.

This was such a horrible way to part.

My hatred for her grew more and more.

I honestly wanted to throw her out of the door.

I put my feelings aside

I tried to see her on the inside.

A scared little girl with no mom and dad,

I had to admit, she had it bad.

Everything was okay when she was young,

But when she got older, she had an attitude that smelt worse than dung.

This was not good, no not good for me.

So I gave her some chores, now is that so mean?

To my surprise, she enjoyed them.

Whether sweeping the floor, or feeding the hen.

So I gave her more, to make her happy.

I was trying to be nice, sue me.

Then came time for the ball.

She wanted to go, but that was not good at all.

She was a total outsider, a sad little thing.

Did she really expect to woo the prince and get a ring?

But I didn’t want to hurt her, so I told a lie.

After all, I hate seeing people cry.

I told her that there were many chores to complete

And once they’re done, can the prince she meet.

After that, I thought I was in the clear,

But she actually finished them all, oh deer.

I began to panic, and worry, and stress.

So I decided to sabotage the dress.

So now, she couldn’t go, everything was fine’

Until the prince was looking for the stepdaughter of mine.

I was so angry! How dare she defy me?

Maybe I can toss her out to the sea?

No, no, far too cruel,

But seriously, all this is totally uncool.

She ruined my happily ever after,

So now she will be single forever.

A simple little price she had to pay.

Pretty clever too, if I must say.

Despite all my efforts, she somehow got out.

She got the guy, which made me want to scream and shout.

I gave up, let her be,

And now I’m a much better me.

Again, I know I made many mistakes,

But there is only so much a woman can take.
