Putting Pen to Paper

They say that eyes are windows to the soul

But I have to disagree

Words can paint a picture that eyes could never see

Descriptions change the world around you

And put you to a mirror

So we can examine what can only be called an internal reign of terror

Putting pen to paper, tattooing the pages

With grievances we can’t cry out

And hide behind happy faces

It is here we find our solace

It is here we dull the pain

It is with these words we write down what we normally can’t explain

And as we fight our demons

Lost battles leading to won wars

We begin to see that our bodies are not the only ones covered in scars

Everyone has their troubles

Everyone has their plights

And the only way to survive each day is to make it through the night

So scribble, scream, erase, and write

Tear out endless pages of work because the message just doesn’t sound right

Isolate yourself from the world for just fifteen minutes

Turn off your phone, TV, and all those other gadgets

And allow yourself to be alone with your thoughts

As scary as it might sound

You’ll find something deep inside, and I beg you to write it down

Because thoughts like friends come and go

And are sometimes never seen again

So capture every raw emotion in black ballpoint pen

Get it off your chest

Share it with the world

Because poetry is lens in which we can create a perfect society

And criticize the reality we live in
