The Quality of Life
You take a breath, but feel as if there's no air.
You look into a mirror, but there is no one standing there.
You speak, but no words come out.
All there is is loneliness.
You take a breath, waking up feeling blessed for another day.
You look into a mirror, there's the most beautful reflection staring back.
You speak, there are crowds wanting to hear what you have to say.
All the joys in life come to you.
You take a breath, it smells of ash and fire.
You look into a mirror and tuck your hair into your hijab.
You speak and the eyes of natives turn away in disgust.
All you experiene is hatred.
You take a breath and try not to cry.
You look into a mirror, the bruises are only temporary.
You speak, but all you tell are lies.
All the pain subsides as long as he loves you.
Each breath is worth the life.
Each reflection is beauty beyond measure.
Each voice has a story that matters.
The quality of life matters.
