quando Mango

Quando Mango

Sunlit comfort washes across the seasoned bar top,

The cool room is just a doorstep yet a million miles from the celebration outside,

Quando makes his way in from the brightness and takes his seat besides,

“Pick a topic!”

The free verse poet seeks to ply his trade for a cool drink,

“Pick a topic!”,

The offered topic is followed by a rhythmic spilling of meandering prose,

And a heart laid bare,

Compensation in hand, a biography flows through soulful eyes and toothless grin,

Sprung from jail, his salvation is veiled in a fair chance at a fair job,

And the love a good woman,

After full harvest of all loose change,

And compassion,

Quando makes his way back into the waning light,

A nearby park will provide his refuge for the night,

And a packie along the way offers the soothing 40 that will ease his pain for one more night.
