The Queen and the Jester (The Passing of a Year)

Trixi was her name, and she was the queen. We all knew it; But the queen grew old And passed away. The little princess was lonely And tried to run away, So we had to find her A companion. Along came a jester; A shy, irritable little Rusty dog Who growled and snapped At all of us. The remnants of the old queen Slowly faded; the sprinklers were Left unmolested, the table free Of sleepy dogs trying to stay cool. Until the morning when I came To the door and saw The little jester lying on the table, Just as the old queen had one year ago.
