Queen of Hearts

She was a queen of hearts

and I was her playing card.

She played me like

children

out in the yard.

She dusted her cheeks with rouge

then we went out

and filled each other with booze.

Every night was like a dream

and with each passing one it seemed

like she'd finally settle,

settle with me.

But she was a queen of hearts,

and oh, she played me like a card.
