Question of "why"

My head doesn't like it

When things don’t make sense

Like when you talk about me

But only in the past tense

It’s crazy when people

Only feel one thing

And knowing that I’m falling apart

And you’re fine, that stings

You play around

Giving me a smile

It starts a fluttering

That stays a while

I had a dream about you

Just a couple nights ago

And when we laughed

I thought it was real, so…

If I tried something drastic

Would you be mad at me

If I tried to make us

Into something I’ve always wanted to be

If I took your hand

And made a move you didn’t expect

Would you turn away

I’m scared to be a reject

So can you answer the questions I ask

Can you explain, or at least try

My head and heart are out of sync

On the question of “why?”

I scan your actions

When I’m laying in my bed

I think through every line

Of everything you’ve ever said

Then I think back

To years and years ago

And think of that one small thing

That's what made you like this, so…

If I made a comment

That made you blush

Would you hate me for it

Or would you like the rush

Would you ask me to stop

Or would you like it too

Would you tell me that you love me

Or tell me that it's just not true

So can you answer the questions I ask

Can you explain, or at least try?

I’m stuck on the question

A simple question of “why”

Why do you stare

Why do you just sit

Why do you laugh

Why do you growl and spit

Why do you giggle

Why do you hold me

Why do you hide

Why do you hate me

Cause my heart loves the chase

While my head runs in fantasies

My darling, can you give me a chance

Singing with the birds and the bees

If you saw I wrote this

Would you cry?

Or would you stare at me

And ask my question of “Why?”
